On Being a Dentist
Dentists are in a unique position to not only help people from all walks of life with their oral health, but to also help with their overall wellness. We find personal joy in getting to know our patients, their needs and concerns, their family and friends, and what they are doing with and in their own lives. This gives us a deeper understand of them as a person, and that’s where we find happiness: in serving them at the highest level we can offer.
I have been blessed to practice for over 30 years, and most of my staff has been with me the entire time! We all chose dentistry after having a personal connection to it. For me, that connection was two people: first, an art professor in college mentioning that he enjoyed seeing my sculpture work and that I should work with my hands, and then a mentor dentist who let me observe his practice and see his amazing relationships with his patients and staff.
Those two experiences inspired me to join the field. I have no doubt I found the perfect career.
Zimpfer Dental
I am proud of the team we’ve brought together at Zimpfer Dental. Each person was invited to join us based on being the happiest, most outgoing, and compassionate person to interview for their position. Everyone has a deep and abiding passion for serving our patient family, for assisting, educating, and encouraging one another, and for building trusting, empathetic relationships.
Together, we take pride in treating our patients with kindness, dignity, and a sense of humor – from little children up to CEOs. We believe in clear and direct communication, making sure each person understands their diagnosis and the nature and scope of their treatment possibilities. We want people to make educated decisions about their dental health and treatment, and to be confident and happy in moving forward in their care.
At Zimpfer Dental, we have a great group of patients who we’ve come to know as our “Dental Family” and who’ve become friends. We are blessed to have many three- and some four-generation families who trust us, and we love connecting the dots on other family members and friends who’ve been referred to us throughout the years.
We keep a happy and supportive atmosphere in the office, which makes it really fun to come to “work” and truly help people every day!
Constant Learning and Professional Affiliations
My team and I love to learn. We have always engaged in new and better technology and training, so our patients benefit from the best and most current treatment available.
My continuing education has included advanced studies in Solea® Laser dentistry, 3D CAD/CAM CEREC® dental design, and implant restoration. I have also extensively studied advancements in cosmetic dentistry and oral medicine.
Additionally, I am a Solea Laser clinical discussion leader and have participated in an adjunct teaching externship program for incoming IU Senior dental students. I have also been featured on Healthbeat reporting episodes, on all four local networks, for leading-edge dental procedures.
I maintain an active membership in the American and Indiana dental associations, and the Ben Hur Dental Society. Through these organizations I have access to numerous courses, meetings, lectures, and professional journals. By taking advantage of these offerings, I stay at the forefront of new materials, innovative technologies, and the latest research and trends.
Beyond the Practice
I grew up in Indiana and have lived in Zionsville for almost 30 years. My wife, Becky, and I have been married for over 28 years; we have three beautiful daughters and two funny little dogs. Becky handles the bookkeeping and marketing for the office so we get to work together every day.
My favorite times, when not in the office, are spent with family. We especially enjoy traveling together. I also like cycling, pig roasts, and attending concerts of all types of music. Oh, and strumming guitar with a group of fellow players – we’ve been doing that for 33 years!
In the Community
When my children were in recreational soccer, I volunteered to coach my oldest at age 4/5, then stayed through with the youngest: for ten years, 20 seasons, and a total of 32 teams! (I sponsored all of them, too.)
Since 2001, I have worked with church retreat weekends, helping to serve, organize, and cook. Becky and I participate in many charities, including Habitat for Humanity and local homeless shelters.
We live and work in the same community, and offering back time and talent has always been something gives us much joy!
